Hey, guys. Here's my concept bundle I did in my last graduate class: Concept Design in Sequential Art. Nolan Woodard, our professor, made it a great class where our studio mantra was 'idea over execution'. So here's what I produced (for the most part).

Character Design

This character who I call a 'MoonClan' creature was joy to create. From the weapons and why he has bandages on his body, it's probably the most 'visually' invested character to date.

The idea was this once peaceful creature is now bent on vengeance after it's home was burned down by an industrial civilization trying to uproot the forest for their concrete city. The bandages are due to burns afflicted during the foreigners deforestation.

The part I enjoyed the most was the weapons. The most prized of them all is the 'organic shield' where it creates a special bond with its host defending it even if the host is not aware of an attack.

Vehicle Designs

These two vehicles above were derived from a story I created entitled Heran Koles. It was a story of a world-renowned hunter forced to hunt mythical creatures for the exchange of his family that was kidnapped by a world-class criminal. The first place Heran goes is the swampland of Louisiana, where, the dangerous Hydra was known to be found. The vehicle on the top is Heran's vehicle, equipped with an enormous spear gun and cage. The vehicle below are the native's means of transportation. The part I'm most proud of is the wood texture that I made by making a brush in Photoshop.

Environment Designs

These environments are my first real steps into environmental concept design. The first 3 environments were both located in Sequoia National Park where the enormous Redwood trees are found. I figured if there were any trees that can be lived in (arboreal) it would be these.

The last environment was part of the Heran Koles story. This the nest of the mythical creature Hydra found probably in an uncharted part of the swamp.

Hello. These are some vehicle designs I've done. The theme between the two is 'projectile'. I really like how they came out. I, personally, am not one who does much technological concept work but am pleased with the results. Both designs have been critiqued by my classmates so revisions are in effect but I felt they were still good enough to be seen. Hope you enjoy.

Here is a cover I design for class on the book Invisible Cities by Italo Calvino. This was a fun and difficult assignment, But, with the help of Mark Montgomery, I came away with the project satisfied. There still some changes to make, however, this is overall look.

I am very proud of this short short story. I never had a character to 'live' on the page like this main character. Probably the closest one I had is Ms.Rose from Handman.And personally, I am growing more fond of having every element in the comic be done by hand. I actually had the copy in the word ballon done hand, but it sucked so bad I put in a comics font. I need to practice I bit more before writing in my ballons again.

Hey everyone. This summer I've been doing a bit of figure studies from a book by Glenn V. Vilppu called The Vilppu Drawing Manual. He has a great sense of structure (something of which I feel I personally lack), so I sought to gain that through his book. Key areas of the body I focused on was the hips and ribcage. My reason for studying the figure again was to have more freedom when drawing more difficult poses. In addition to studying the figure I've been playing with a software called Sketchbook Pro. To me, it's just photoshop at its absolute basic functions for an artist.

Hey gang. School is finally over. It's been a great quarter here at SCAD-Atlanta. My Sequential Art Self-Promotion was really informative and challenging for me. Rebranding yourself can be a big task, but I feel that it benefited. Studio four was great. I went about the class trying to make my comic-making abilities more efficient. I had a critque today on my pages thus far and everyone dug them(thanks fellas). I look forward to working my Found story this summer and developing my portfolio for my exodus next year.

This is a 15 second Network ID I did for my Motion Graphics class on Bravo TV. A Network ID, or more known as a "bumper" or "bump", is a brief transition announcement placed between a pause in the TV program and its commercial break. Their shows consist of; Actor's Studio, Law & Order: Criminal Intent, Top Chef, Top Design and many more. I tried to make the ID upbeat, entertaining and graphic. Hope you guys like.

Sculpture Gallery

Hello faithful few, here's another update. I have some unlikely pieces of art to share with you all. The Winter Beast Photoshop painting I did a while back I also turned into a sculpture. It was a fun and long project I started in May and finished in July. The sculpture is made out Sculpey Polymer Clay with a wire frame underneath it all. Concept design is an avenue that I'm very interesting in. That area in my portfolio is growing more and more, which I'm very pleased with. The last picture at the bottom shows Winter Beast two other sculptures I had done. One, them being a Handman sculpture done by the amazing sculptor Paul Bennett. I drew up the plans and he brought Handman to life, thanks Paul! There's also a little fella I did back in 6th grade. One of very first sculptures I ever made. I call him, dino or Lil' D. Anyway, the next batch are some turnarounds of Handman. Till next time.PEAS

Here is my final project for my studio class. I spent a lot of time just on the coloring. I also made some 11 by 17 prints from kinkos and they came out great. I intentionally planned for the story to be visaully driven having no dialogue in it. There were some dry spots in the process, all the editing, and palette changes. Nevertheless, the end definitely justified the means. Now if I can only do a cover to top it off.

Here's my creature design I did for class. It was loads of fun to do. We worked from a script our teacher gave us and we came up with our best interpretation. Also, I tried rendering process different than my usual. I started with a black and white rendering layer with an overlay of color. I'm pretty happy with it and the critiques I got were mostly positive. One comment that was said was the size of the creature's head is dwarfed the body a bit. He suggested to make the head smaller, which I thought was a good idea. Next, post are some comic pages!

Hey everyone. The blog thing was put on the back burner but I'm back. A few weeks ago I ran into a complication with posting the "Henry Belt" pages and a new Handman short on the the blog. Instead of putting it on the blog I put them on my website in the sequential section. If I can figure how to keep the image from turning in all these weird colors I'll post larger images here. I also update my resume as well, which is located in the bio section.

In other news, I am taking a pretty cool class called Constructive Animal Anatomy for Creature Design. We're going to do things like study animals at the zoo and make maquette sculptures, should be fun. Well, next time I post I should have some animals drawings to show. PEAS.

Here's a piece I did with my graduate teacher Shawn Crystal(check out Link). I saw him working on the Wolverine drawing during the fall quarter and when he threw down the ink work I asked if I could color it. He has a awesome sense of inking putting the thicks and thins in all the right places. His work made my job easy, at least it should of been. I went through a couple of trials and color shemes before I came to the finish. At first, I was trying be different and colored Wolverine's suit BLUE (that was dumb). Thankfully, shawn asked me to color his suit in the ol' fashioned yellow and brown and the whole thing finally came together. Thanks shawn for letting me work on your cool piece.

Here's a fun page in my sketchbook. It started out as a ugly sketchbook but somehow I managed to whip this one into shape.

Also, I did some color the alleygirl page. Not sure on anything yet but we'll see. PEAS.

I've been pretty inspired lately. The first sketchbook drawing at the top started with just the girl. Then I laid some perspective and pulled up some reference photos and came up with this. This page gave and oppurtunity to mess with environments and inking. The very next drawing after that was the characters. They were quick and easy and again gave me something to ink. The character I like the most is the far left one, I don't think I ever drew a face the cool. After staring at it for a day I took it to photoshop and started taking parts I liked and gave it a horizontal view to again chalenge myself. For reference I looked at Bengal and Nathan Fox's work for color and composition. I never done a piece that looked like this before, so I 'm happy there's still things I keep discovering in my work. I also feel as though my finish work is looking closer to my sketchbook stuff. HOPe U Dig. PEAS

It's good to post again. Hopefully I'm not forgotten. I have a extra long winter break that goes from November 15 to January 7, it's ridiculous! So I'm triying to keep busy. Coloring, revisiting previous work and redrawing comic panels is what I've been up to lately. The first one is just a sketchbook drawing that I liked so I digitally colored that. Next, is The Kiss story I did draw during school. The goal of the piece was to just drawing all 8 pages, which I did, but I going back to some of them and fixing them. Sorry, just 2 pages because I don't think the rest aren't cool enough yet. Last is Tanaman and 8-trey concept drawings that I'm trying to clean up and color. Enjoy.

Hey everyone. To start off, there's no excuse for not posting somethang but man! Overall I'm having a good ol' time in Savannah College of Art in Design in the ATL. I have two stories running right now and they're really different and good for my development as a storyteller. One is about a young boy and girl who are trying to find the perfect spot to have their kiss but things keep happening that cause them to go else. My second story is about young sofball phenom named, Stefanie. She has figuring out whether her overwheleming populariy is more important than her teammates during her decisive at batter in an intense ballgame. Both stories are stretching me in areas I need and when I get some finished pages I'll definitely post them. Thanks to everyone who view and leave comments. Please don't worry, I'm still on the job.

This is probably the quickest follow-up post I've posted since...Never. Well, on the blogarians Chris uttered the words "Celebrity Theme" and I immediaty jumped on it. Since I've been drawing a lot of girls lately I decided to do a female celebrity which led to drawing Rosario Dawson. I added my sketchbook "nic-nacs" around her and felt it was finished. One thing I noticed in my work recently is the less I have to conceptualize the more work i produce. I'm a simply guy I guess. I also drew two chicas and a couple of cars this week. What's up everyone. It's been a busy few weeks for me. I've been getting prepared for graduate school from packing to house shopping. Had to get some more loan money but it's all good. I've finished the grid sketchbook and it was refreshing to say the least. I fell in love with color all over again. I'm now back to the ol' 8.5 by 11 sketchbook and right now my primarily focus is Female characters. Second to child, drawing female characters out of my head has always been a challenge i never quite conquered. So, For the past week I've been focus on drawing girls with little to no reference.The only reference I would use would be the one's walking in starbucks and Barnes and Nobles. I have sketches at the bottom along with my favorites. Graduate School starts in 3 weeks and I'm excited! G-Bless to everyone and please leave your comments.

Greetings. Here's what I have so far on this piece. It's been rough yet fun struggling through traditional materials. Using the Watercolor caused a lot of buckling in the Bristol paper making it hard to work on. I should of used a more sturdier surface. I've putting for litttle nick-nacks here and there. Again trying to recreate my sketchbook pages. I've giving up and decided to finish it digitally (The buckling got to me).

What is up ya'll. I've been hiding for a long time but I am still around quietly producing here and there. Thanks to all who haven't forgotten about me. These sketches below are ones that i like the most. The animals drawing were probably the most fun. It was during a some hardtimes and doing those drawings was a great lift for me. The drawings with the grid in it is my latest sketchbook. It's been great for patterns. Right now I am reading two great that is helping in the story department and they are "20 Master Plots" by Ronald B. Tobias and "45 Master Characters" by Victoria L. Schmidt. Both are great and needed help being that I have being having some trouble with Handman and it's cohesiveness. Other news is that I am going to Grad School this Fall at Savannah College of Art and Design. I'll be in Atlanta for two years developing my craft as an artist and writer. Tanaman & 8TREY Activity Book

Hey guys. It's been a suprisingly busy 2007. Everything has come at once but now things have cooled off. One project that I've recently finished was a Chidrens Activity Book. The most interesting part about the project was having the oppurtunity of designing two heroic characters based off of two NFL players. The first person I designed for was Sinorice Moss. He's a wide-reciever for the NY Giants. I based his herioc design around both Colossus and Cyborg from Teen Titans and the name, 8TREY, is a name he prefered to use. The other person I designed for was Santana Moss (The older brother of Sinorice) and he's a wide-reciever for the Washington Redskins. I wanted him and his brother to have there own look and abilities so for Santana I look at alot Ironman and wolverine designs. Tanaman would also be the name for his character. Once I got consent from both players that they like the look I began the cover for the book. Due to time contraints less work when into the cover deisign and more into their look. Later I'll add the interior pages done for the activity book but for now I hope like.

Outland Station Book Store is a store that I enjoy going to. It's a cozy little store close to home with a great selection of comics. Soon after my Texas convention trip I brought my book to see what they thought. After showing them my book I ask them if I could get my book on the stands( a question unanswered in my mind). Easily enough they agreed and i gave a couple books to them to sell. it's crazy to see my book next to big names like Stan Lee, very intimitating. Fortunatley, The very next day I got word about one book that sold! They told me that they heard about my book somewhere. It's cool how the word gets out in comics. Slowly i'm getting to understand the in's and the outs of the Indie comic scene. Unfortunately, doing all this promoting stuff has seriously slowed down my progress with ISSUE 2. But, when my christmas break finally rolls over I'll be back on the mission.

Ink Drawings

I've been working on some ink drawings and here's what I got so far. It's been a very long time since I drew a self-portrait. I use to draw myself all the time, i guess i got over myself.

I've been co-teaching a kindergarden class recently and sometimes i'll bring my camera to have fun with the kids. There's 32 sqirts in my class so having another teacher there takes a lot of the weight off. Here's a picture of the bunch during our Thanksgiving Feast. It was a chill day with food, movies and Indians/Pilgrim hats.

Some of the pictures I took were pretty cool I decided to do some pieces of them. The first piece is student named, Johonaton(Jonathan). He is very bright and tries really hard in my class. It was a fun ink drawing from start to finish. The last piece below i one of student of mine named ,Tony. he's a great kids who has a bit of learning disability but he tries to get it right just like everyone else. I start the piece with ink, then moved to watercolor, and finished it photoshop. I have some i'm whipping up so stay tuned!

Wizard World Texas Comic Convention

Hello Everyone. A couple of new developments have come about recently. I went to Texas where the Wizard World Comicbook Convention was held. And this time I had my very own booth displaying Handman books, posters, original pages and sketches. The experience there was unreal. Big names artist like Greg Horn, Sean "Cheeks" Galloway, Rob Gullory, Benjamin Hall i met and talked with. Handman is relatively an unknown comicbook right now. So, at my booth I meeted and greeted pretty much every person who came by. It was a learning experience indeed. Although many of the people who I introduced my book to weren't profitable ones, my earnest approach paid off with 40 engaged buyers who each were awesome people. Some of the people who bought the book on Friday(the first day of the convention) came back Saturday and told me they really enjoyed the book. I was honestly was struck by some of the sentiments said about the book and my appreciation goes out those cool people who took a chance on me,THANKS.

At the convention, I did a couple of Handman commission drawings. I was pleased by the orignality of each commission given to me. Drawing on the spot was a new thing that i've never done before. I'm usually locked up in my room secretly creating my pieces of (crap) art. But i was pleased as well as the people I commissioned for. (1)The first one was a regular standing pose of Handman. I was a little nervous but it came out okay.(2) The second drawing i did for a group called Half-Ass Publishing. They have a comic book called "Some Big Lumberjack" so i drew both their and my main character goofing off. (3) The third drawing was with the theme: Mad scientist. (4) For the fourth commission they wanted me to do a character from a comic book called "Transmetropolitan" and turn one of the characters to a handwoman. (5) last commission was Handman Rocking out!

I did this test page for a New York Company called, Amelia Earhart's Dog,LLC. They wanted to see a semi-finished four-panel rendition on their script. It was incredible fun, diffucult and time consuming being that i wanted to do the best i could do.

They sent me the script(below) Monday night. It already had character designs for me to work from. So, i begin thumbnailing.

Once I got somewhere with the thumbnails I began character sketching. I personally think that's my weakest area so it was great to be force to think about that. I gotta thank TED for all reference photos i have of him him in school. i used him for the character design of Hot Rod(the guy with the funny Hair). For the boy Zach I used my brother Jeromy.

After enough character sketching decided to jump into panel one. It's was possibly the hardest drawing i've ever had to do.

Panel 2 wasn't so bad. But, I don't think Hot Rod is consistantly resembled throughout the panels.

After many many hours drawing at Kinkos I had all four panels drawn to a good degree. So i made xerox copies of each panel so they'd fit my small scanner.From there, I just put some Photoshop Magic and a few hours later i came with a finish. I plan on doing a full color rendering on at least panel one and will continue on pushing for a more polished look.

Hey everyone. just droppin' off some sketch pages from my latest sketchbooks. I like both a lot bec/ they have tone already on the pages. Currently, i'm writing Handman issue 2 which is coming out great. New characters, new developments and new moves from Handman himself. I hope to have a cover made for it soon so look out for that. Also, i went to the Orlando Convention this past weekend. I meet with a lot of people and have a lot more Handman supporters as well. I hope to have a sample of issue 2 for Wizard World Texas Convention in November. There, i'm going to have my very own booth with all kinds of goodies to look at and sell.

After Volunteering i've been permitting to hang out with the cool "Academy Kids" and do work with them. There are some great artist so it's great motivation for me. The drawing below was done with two soft pastels on tone brown paper. There's a 4-step in this technique in doing this style of drawing that you can try on your own spare time.

1- With your light pastel fill in the total siholette of figure leaving a decent amount of pastel on the paper.
2- With your dark pastel, tighten the edges of the silhouettes also leaving a good amount pastel on the paper.
3- With your hand or a napkin blend the two colors on the paper together. Doing that will create med-tone between the two colors. If it doesn't look dark enough add the pastel in either of the areas and blend it again.
4- With your light pastel go back in and sculpt out the "light areas" and do not go back into the "med-tone" with your dark pastel. All these rules can either can be modified or broken but it's a cool basis to start from. Enjoy!

Daycare drawings

This summer, i've devoted a bit a my time to help in the community. one volunteer site i work at is the YMCA where i provide art lessens an a helping hand for the people that work there. The other site is a daycare at a methodist church down the road. i come in by about 2:30 and by that time it's Naptime. while they sleep i draw them, it's the best time to draw then because those kids are Hyper after that nap and are very hard to draw. so here some drawings of them napping.

Yesterday, surfing through the web I hit up an online site called Dork Magazine. I recently showed them some of my work and they liked it enough to put a feature of me for their online site ( It's on my links now) . Big up to Taj Reid and James Oyedijo for hookin' me up. Dork Magazine as they describe it, "A daily publication art, habitat and people." its a great site full of great interviews from rap artist like Lupe fiasco, Ilttle Brother( my favorite right now) to design like BMW 's "Airbus A350". Anyway, thanks a lot Taj and James for the publication and everybody check out issue #5 when it comes out. peace

[Handman] Meet Mrs.Rose!

i'm currently working on my biggest project "Handman". It's a comicbook that features my favorite creation (sorry no shots of it tho, it current being Copywrited for security purposes) But here's his supporting cast member, Ms.Rose. She's his next door neighbor that helps him through out the story. Ms.Rose is based off of Rosa Parks, who i regard very highly, and i felt i'll be a great to bring her back to the living! well heres a your first look, it's just the rough drawing and the cleaned up version next to it.

i had a lot of fun with this one. it developed from a mere scribble and then a fews hour later i came up with this. my favorite part is the mood i captured. of course, with the theme samurai fun and cool things were going to happen. i got another one coming but i don't think it's gonna be that great but who cares! i'm having fun most of all.

For my thesis I'm doing a 13-page comic of my character, Handman. right now i'm in the process of drawing the final page layouts. The image that's on the display is page one of the comicbook. i don't have the text on there but basically it states the there a new neighbor that moved into town. i having some issues with the color but this my best attempt thus far. this is also my best logo for Handman.

this particular post was a big pain ya'll. i had this whole panther done the night before and then Murphy's Law suddenly struck. as i was watchin' City of God and painting i didn't save the whole time and right when i wanted to the Photoshop program frooze on me. i shouldn't complain tho, it's only quick hour or two but it suck to lose what u already had done.

For my first post i have some of sketchbook pages of what i call the "RED&BLACk series". it's simply a bunch drawings done in a 5 and 1/2 by 8 and 1/2 sketchbook. The objective is to create interesting pages with the limitation of two pilot pens. i find it very enjoyable and challenging and hopefully, when I compile enough "good" sketchbook pages i'll make a book of it. so here's some and the better ones will on my website coming this spring.
